Titanic Boost For Restoration Bid
There's news today of a 'Titanic' fillip for the restoration of the last surviving sea-going link to the ill-fated ocean liner, Belfast-built Titanic.
More than £2 million in lottery funding has been earmarked for the overhaul of the ship's tender, which ferried passengers from Cherbourg to the Titanic before its fateful voyage in 1912.
The scheme will now be drawn up in more detail following Heritage Lottery Fund support.
The Nomadic and the Hamilton Dock in Belfast are both to be ready in time for the centenary of the sinking in 2012 with the aim to create a museum to explain the story of the shipyards and travel in that period.
The SS Nomadic and Hamilton Graving Dock in Belfast's docks are key links in the centenary commemorations of the sinking of the Titanic.
The Nomadic team is bidding for £2.65 million from the lottery fund.
The aim is to restore the first and second-class passenger areas to their original state in contrast to the austere third-class area.
Those behind the project have two years to submit more detailed proposals.

Belfast's new Titanic Exhibition Centre (TEC), sited opposite Titanic Studios in Titanic Quarter, opened today, 17 September, delivering a huge boost for local business in the process. The 6,000 square metre structure will be used as a potential venue for exhibitions, community and sporting events, as well as large-scale banquets.

Orientation Maps For EastSide And Titanic Quarter Unveiled
Two new visitor orientation maps for EastSide and Titanic Quarter that will guide visitors to the shared shipbuilding heritage of east Belfast have been unveiled. The plans were revealed by the East Belfast Partnership and Titanic Foundation Limited with support from Belfast City Council.
