Cookstown Hit By 'Bomb Alert'

Terrorists are playing a dangerous game of 'Cat and Mouse' with the PSNI today.

Officers are searching several areas of Cookstown after a warning that a small device had been left in the town - even though no specific location has been established by police.

A PSNI spokesman has said that people living in the area should not touch anything suspicious.

They said that a telephone bomb warning was made to Cookstown police station on Thursday morning.

Meanwhile, a man has been shot after being abducted by several men in north Belfast.

The 31 year-old victim was forced into a car in the New Lodge area at around 11pm on Wednesday.

He was then driven to Aspen Walk in Dunmurry, where he was shot in the leg.

However, his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

A 44-year-old man has been sentenced to a total of 12 years for offences linked to EncroChat – an encrypted communication channel used by criminals. Michael O'Loughlin was arrested in 2020 following the search of a property as part of Operation Venetic, a UK wide operation by the National Crime Agency (NCA) designed to "dismantle EncroChat".

Three In Hospital After Police Vehicle Collides With Another Vehicle
Two police officers and a civilian remain in hospital following a collision in Newry on Saturday, 13 April. It is understood that the police officers were travelling in a police vehicle to attend a separate incident at about 7.30pm when they collided with another vehicle on the Fathom Road.

Justice Minister Condemns Attacks On Police Officers
NI Justice Minister, Naomi Long, has condemned attacks on police officers, after it was revealed that on average 8 officers are assaulted every day while on duty. Minister Long said: "Attacks on police officers, indeed attacks on any public servant are totally unacceptable.
