Prime Minister Pays Tribute To Late Father
Prime Minister David Cameron has paid tribute to his father Ian, who died yesterday after suffering a stroke while on holiday in France.
Mr Cameron paid tribute to his father in a statement, describing him as "an amazing man" who "touched a lot of lives in lots of different ways".
The statement said: "This was unexpected and sudden, but he was having a wonderful holiday and was with great friends. Above all, he was with mum, to whom he was devoted, and he was happy - and the end came quickly. We will treasure all the joy he brought us."
Ian Cameron, 77, suffered a stroke and heart complications while on holiday in France with his wife, Mary.
David Cameron missed Prime Minister's Questions yesterday in order to travel to France to be with his father. French President Nicolas Sarkozy arranged a helicopter for the Prime Minister which enabled him to see his father before he sadly passed away.
Ian Cameron was said to be proud of his son and had visited both Downing Street and Chequers after David Cameron became Prime Minister.
Sadly, though, he did not get to see his latest granddaughter - the Camerons' baby daughter Florence Rose Endellion was born last month.
Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg, who stood in for Mr Cameron at PMQs yesterday, said he was glad that Ian Cameron had lived to see his son become Prime Minister and that David had been able to be at his father's side yesterday.
Acting Labour leader Harriet Harman and former Labour Prime Minister Gordon Brown have also sent their condolences to Mr Cameron and his family.

It is understood that teaching unions will meet up with government for talks today while health service unions will meet with the government tomorrow. More than 2 million workers are estimated to have taken part in the strikes across the UK yesterday.

The Conservative leader David Cameron is now 'First Among Equals' after a deal for No 10 with the Liberal Democrats was announced last night. The 43-year-old Eton and Oxford educated leader is the youngest Prime Minister in 200 years with the coalition Government he has formed with the Liberal Democrats being the first of its kind since the 1970s.

Employment Minister To Encourage Employers To Give a 'Hoodie' A Job
In a speech later today the employment minister, Chris Grayling, will say companies should take a chance on "the surly young man in a hoodie". "It's easy to hire someone from Eastern Europe with five years' experience," he is expected to say, adding that firms should take a risk on less obvious "local recruits".
