Dodds 'Stepping Down From Assembly'

The DUP's Nigel Dodds is reported to be stepping down from the Northern Ireland Assembly.

According to reports, Mr Dodds, the MP for North Belfast, will step down within days, as part of his party's policy of phasing out so-called 'double jobbing' amongst MPs.

Five of the DUP's MPs - Jeffrey Donaldson, William McCrea, Ian Paisley Jr, David Simpson and Jim Shannon - have already resigned from their Assembly posts over the summer.

Gregory Campbell, the MP for East Londonderry is also expected to stand down from the Assembly, but no date has yet been given for the move.

Only Finance Minister Sammy Wilson, the party's MP for East Antrim, is expected to continue in his Assembly role, at least until the Executive spending plans are in place.
