Body Of Missing Wedding Guest Recovered

The body of a missing wedding guest has been recovered from the River Wear in Durham. Stephen Burn, 26, from Witton Gilbert, had not been seen since he left a wedding reception at Durham on August 28. Shortly before 9:30am on Sunday morning, a man out on the river in his kayak came across a body around 200 metres from the rowing club, on the Gilesgate side of the river. The body has been formally identified as Mr Burn. A post-mortem is due to be held later and an inquest will be opened in due course.

Two Killed In Chieveley Collision

Two people have been killed in a collision on the A34 in Chieveley. The collision, between a white van and a black Audi, happened around 7:30am this morning, in a layby off the southbound carriageway, around three-quarters of a mile, before the Chieveley turn-off. The southbound carriageway of the A34 has been closed at the Beedon junction and is likely to remain closed most of the morning while enquiries are carried out. Diversions are in place. Police Appeal Over Fatal Collision

Sussex Police have appealed for information about a fatal road crash in which a 46-year-old Newhaven man was killed. The incident happened on the eastbound carriageway of the A27, just east of the Shoreham tunnel, around 7:20pm on Sunday, when a silver Honda and a blue Hyundai collided. The dead man was driving the silver Honda. An 11-year-old male passenger in the Honda also received minor injuries in the crash, but the 76-year-old driver of the Hyundai was uninjured. The road was closed for several hours, but re-opened at 3am today. Anyone with any information is asked to contact police on: 0845 60 70 999.

Investigation Launched After Death Of Woman Following Bus Fall
A woman has died in hospital after falling on a route E3 bus on Chiswick High Road, just after 13:30 on Tuesday, 18 August. The 77-year-old woman was taken to hospital by ambulance, where she was pronounced dead shortly before 17:00.

Up To Four Suffer 'Life-Changing' Injuries In Troop Carrier Collision
More than 20 people have been injured, 4 or 5 seriously, in a collision involving three troop carriers on Salisbury Plain. Wiltshire Police were called to the accident at about 18:30 on Wednesday. The cause of the accident is being investigated but it is understood that 4 or 5 people have suffered "life-changing injuries".

Investigation Launched Into Hotel Body Find
A murder investigation has been launched following the discovery of a woman's body in a Hull hotel room. Police said they were called to the Ibis hotel on Osborne Street at 13:00 on Sunday, where they discovered the body of a woman. She is yet t be identified.

UK Troops Get Boost To Personal Protection
British troops fighting in the frontline are to receive new body armour and helmets this autumn, it has been announced. Over 10,000 sets of the enhanced Mark 7 helmet and the Osprey Assault body armour have been ordered from companies across the UK, under initial contracts worth around £16 million.

Investigation Launched After Body Discovered On Carriageway
An investigation has been launched following the discovery of a body in Carmarthenshire, Wales. It is understood police were called to the eastbound carriageway of the A48 at about 21:20 amid reports that a man was walking on the road. Police subsequently found the body of a man, understood to be aged in his 30s.
