Lurgan Hits A High Note For 400th Birthday Bash

Eurovision winner Niamh Kavanagh, ‘Master of the Musicals’ Peter Corry and John Anderson Big Band are just some of the big names lined up for this September’s free ‘Lurgan 400 Live’ event, organised to celebrate the town’s 400th birthday.

TV favourites Eamonn Holmes and his new wife Ruth Langsford are also signed up to co-host this major outdoor music event – a first for the stunning location of Lurgan Park – on Saturday 4th September.

An eclectic mix of foods from around the world will also offer family and friends the opportunity to gather in the spectacular surroundings of Lurgan Park to enjoy an ‘alfresco’ picnic and a truly unique evening of music when gates open at 5pm.

Festivities will truly get underway with the packed line-up of star performers take to the stage at 7.30pm to perform hits from the movies. The magical night, which is expected to attract thousands of lovers of music from the movies from Lurgan and beyond, will be brought to a close with a fireworks finale at 10.30pm.

Mayor of Craigavon Alderman Stephen Moutray MLA, said: “Lurgan 400 Live marks the culmination of a fantastic series of events that have shown how much Lurgan has to offer.

"Craigavon Borough Council have worked hard to coordinate a year of events that celebrate Lurgan and all credit must be given for all their hard work to pull together what promises to be a fantastic evening for all the family. We would urge everyone, whether you’ve been to Lurgan before or not, to come along and experience Lurgan at its best.”

One of the stars of the celebration, Niamh Kavanagh said: “Lurgan 400 Live is going to be an evening of music and magic and I can’t wait to perform some of my favourite songs for the movies and enjoy a great night on the town.”

Guests are reminded to bring along a picnic rug or deck chairs so that they can enjoy the festivities in comfort and as we can’t always rely on the weather people are advised to bring rain proofs and something warm to wear for the evening.

People are also encouraged to ease the strain and take the train to the event with Translink having laid on transport from the station to Lurgan Park. The buses will leave the station every half hour from 5.00pm returning from Lurgan Park every half hour at a quarter to and quarter past the hour. The last journey is from Lurgan Park at 11.15pm.

This once-in-a-quadricentenniary event will bring to a close a series of fun, engaging events designed to mark Lurgan’s establishment in 1610.This project is supported by the PEACE III Programme managed by the Special EU programmes Body and delivered by the Southern Partnership.
