RBS To Axe 3,500 Jobs

Royal Bank of Scotland has announced plans to axe 3,500 jobs. The losses will affect the bank's IT services and back office division, with around 1,000 IT jobs and 2,500 jobs in support service set to be cut. The bank, which was part-nationalised during the financial crisis, is to close up to 12 offices in England. The announcement has been strongly criticised by the Unite union. A total of 30,000 jobs are expected to be eventually cut, as part of the bank's restructuring plan, which was announced last year.

Body Found In Missing Angler Search

Police have confirmed that the body of a missing North Yorkshire fisherman has been found in the Lake District. Mark Bryant, 55, from Beamsley was last seen fishing on Ullswater around 1:30pm on Tuesday. A large scale search was larged when he failed to return to his campsite and his body was located by divers from the Underwater Search Team in Ullswater around 7:30pm on Wednesday.

Man Sought Over Blackpool Stabbing

Police have identified a man they wish to speak to in connection with a man who was stabbed in Blackpool. Steven Carter, 37, is being sought following the stabbing of a 50-year-old man at a property on Reads Avenue around 2pm on Wednesday. The man suffered injuries to his back and lungs in the attack and remains in a serious but stable condition at Blackpool Victoria Hospital. Mr Carter is described as 6ft tall with long, dark brown curly hair and blue eyes. Detective Inspector Becky Smith said: "I would urge anyone who thinks that they have seen Steven Carter or who thinks they may know where he is to contact us. We would advise members of the public not to approach him but to call the police immediately." Investigation Launched Into Hotel Body Find
A murder investigation has been launched following the discovery of a woman's body in a Hull hotel room. Police said they were called to the Ibis hotel on Osborne Street at 13:00 on Sunday, where they discovered the body of a woman. She is yet t be identified.

MPs Urged To Do More For Disabled Workers
MPs are being called on to do more to help disabled jobseekers into work by the Minister for Disabled People, Justin Tomlinson. The Minister said that members of parliament should take a more active role in matching disabled jobseekers with employers in their areas.

British Man Dies In Dubai Police Custody
A British man has died in police custody in Dubai. Lee Bradley Brown, 39, from east London, died on Tuesday after he was taken to a Dubai police station where he was allegedly assaulted and put into a cell. It has been reported that Mr Brown, was arrested over a row at the luxury hotel Burj Al Arab hotel.

Man Arrested Over Kent Doctor's Murder
A 21-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the murder of a doctor in Kent. Consultant paediatrician Dr Victoria Anyetei, 54, was found in her car in the driveway of her home in Dartford on August 14. She had been stabbed to death. Kent Police said that the man was arrested on suspicion of murder at an address in Dartford.

Euro soars on weak US jobs creation report
The US dollar has continued its decline against the euro, as the currency market reacted to a worse than expected December US employment report. The US jobs growth figures announced today saw the euro leap back to levels close to the near the record Tuesday high of $1.28.
