Girl Savaged In Dog Attack
A Scottish schoolgirl is being treated in hospital for facial injuries after she was bitten by a dog in Kilmarnock.
Toni Clannachan, 10, was bitten in the face by a Japanese Akita dog while she played in a friend's garden at a house on Tuesday.
She was taken to Crosshouse Hospital for treatment, where she is said to be in a stable condition.
The owner of the dog has been reported to the procurator fiscal.
This is the second dog attack to happen in Scotland this week. On Sunday, ten-year-old Rhianna Kidd suffered a fractured jaw and bites on her arms and legs when she was attacked by two rottweilers in Dundee.
The schoolgirl was riding her bike in Dryburgh Street when the attack happened. She was rescued by her grandmother and underwent emergency reconstructive surgery in hospital.
The two dogs were traced and put down the following day. A 33-year-old woman has been charged under the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991 for failing to control the animals.

Owners To Face Longer Sentences Over Dog Attacks
Irresponsible dog owners who allow their dog to attack people or assistance dogs will face tougher prison sentences from today, Tuesday. Changes to the Dangerous Dogs Act will also mean dog owners can now face prosecution if their dog attacks a person in their home or on any private property, except if they attack a trespasser.

Girl, Six, Bitten By Police Dog
A six-year-old girl has been bitten by a police dog in Manchester, it has been reported. It is understood the officers were chasing a suspect at the time of the incident. Police were pursuing a man who was running away after a stolen car crashed into a wall in the Newton Heath area of the city.

Humberside Fire and Rescue have confirmed that twenty dogs have died in a fire in East Yorkshire. It is understood that a fire broke out at the home of a private dog breeder on Graingers Road, Hornsea, at about 19:00 on Saturday.

New proposals for England and Wales could see owners of dogs that attack and kill face a life sentence in prison. Currently, the maximum sentence is two years for those convicted of allowing a dog to be dangerously out of control. Under proposals put forward by the government, a range of new sentences would be available, from seven years to life.
