Irish TV Announces Investment And Expansion

Co Mayo-based Irish TV has announced a €15m expansion plan. The move will also create 150 new jobs.

The satellite television station currently offers programming online along with a weekly satellite transmission, but the investment will see extended broadcasting hours from next month, expanding to broadcast in both Europe and the United States.

The broadcaster has said that they plan to recruit staff from across the country and will have three people working in each county to generate content.

Thirty four people will be taken on at the company's Westport headquarters, with a further 20 staff based at new offices in Northern Ireland, England and the US.

The channels programming will be available on Freesat and Sky packages in Europe and will be carried on the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) platform in the US.

A major 10-year multi-million Euro redevelopment for Irish state broadcaster, RTÉ is to proceed, despite the recession and the perilous state of the Irish Republic's finances. A planning application was initially made in October 2009 and now that the revised plan has been approved, construction work is expected to start in 2012.

Purepipe To Create Six New Jobs
Belfast-based Purepipe is investing £250,000 and creating six new jobs as part of plans to boost sales in Great Britain and the Republic of Ireland. Invest Northern Ireland has offered the company £45,000 towards its expansion which involves investing in new state-of-the-art specialised pipe manufacturing equipment needed to target new business.

Tesco To Recruit 200 New Staff
Tesco has announced that it is recruiting over 200 new staff for its new store which will open in Newry on 6 June 2013. The announcement was welcomed today by Employment and Learning Minister Dr Stephen Farry as recruitment opened for the new store. The Minister described the jobs boost as good news for jobseekers in the Newry area.
