New Cork Plant Brings Fresh Jobs
The Minister for Enterprise has announced the creation of new jobs in Cork as a "first of its kind" plant prepares to open.
Minister O'Keeffe has announced the jobs at the opening of a new €8 million aluminium extrusion plant in Architectural and Metal Systems (AMS) based in Little Island, Co Cork.
Originally established in Cork in 1990, the firm manufactures aluminium products such as curtain walling, window and door systems and systems-related components.
AMS designs, develops and commercialises its own patented range of architectural façade systems. The company is considered a leading supplier of energy efficient glazing systems and related architectural products.
Batt O’Keeffe said the newly expanded plant is the first of its kind in Ireland.
Announcing the 31 jobs, Minister O’Keeffe described AMS as an "ambitious export-led Irish firm that put innovation at the heart of its business growth model".
"AMS has responded to the call for economic recovery by implementing an ambitious investment plan based on cutting-edge technology with a strong export-based focus," he said.
The new extrusion plant will give AMS control of extruded aluminium - its key raw material - helping the firm to boost exports and improve competitiveness.
The plant will also be able to supply other Irish firms which until now have depended on imported extruded aluminium profiles.
The €8 million investment is in addition to a previous €4 million spend on a state-of-the-art powder paint-coating line in the firm.

€22m Tipperary R&D Plant Announced By Food Firm
A Tipperary food firm has been granted almost €22m to build a new research and development centre at its Thurles base. The announcement, made by Enterprise Minister Mary Coughlan, will allow Dew Valley Foods, to also expand current production capabilities and develop a new employee skills development programme.

1,000 New Jobs To Be Create At New Coventry Plant
Up to 1,000 new jobs are to be created in Coventry in a new taxi plant, the London Taxi Company (LTC) has announced. It is understood that the new £250 million factory will focus on production of the next generation of electric and low-emission vehicles. The first new vehicles are expected to leave the new Ansty Park site in 2017.

An additional 16 jobs are to be created at a Galway biomedical plant. Proxy Biomedical has announced plans to double its workforce over the next two years. The jobs will be at the firm's new An Spidéal manufacturing base.
