President Higgins Warns Of 'Precariat' Employees

President Michael D Higgins has described a new class of people trapped in job insecurity as "precariat" – meaning those in precarious employment and unpaid internships.

President Higgins said following the recent financial crisis, this was now the "defining challenge of our times".

He warned that if no genuine alternative is translated into more policy options, populist politicians and "heinous" religious preachers would find it easy to exploit the fears and insecurities of precarious workers. 

€3m Lotto Prize Unclaimed

A €3 million Lotto prize has gone unclaimed, after the 90 day deadline for the winner to claim their prize has expired.

The owner of a €3 quick pick was sold in Claremorris, Co Mayo last November.

Since the Lotto began, around €10.5 million of prize money has gone unclaimed.

Missing Co Dublin Man Found 'Safe And Well'

A missing Co Dublin man has been found "safe and well", garda confirmed.

40-year-old Piers Wilson, a father-of-three from Ballybrack, had been missing since Monday evening.

Garda launched a search operation, appealing for the public's help.

No details of where Mr Wilson was during the time he was missing have been released, but gardaí thanked the public for their help.

PSNI Investigating Fatal Collision Near Bready, Co Tyrone
An investigation has been launched following a fatal road traffic collision near Bready, Co Tyrone. At around 1.40pm on Sunday, 07 April, police responded to a report of a single vehicle collision on the Victoria Road. When police arrived it was discovered that a white Seat Leon had left the carriageway close to the junction with Grangefoyle Road.

Call For Assistance To Families On Missing
Ireland's law reform body has called for the plan to see the families of missing people to receive financial help with paying their bills. The Law Reform Commission (LRC) on Monday published its Consultation Paper on Civil Law Aspects of Missing Persons making 18 detailed provisional recommendations for reform of the law.

National Lottery Statistics Show €90m In Unclaimed Winnings
The latest figures released by the National Lottery have revealed that some €90 million in prizes and jackpots have gone unclaimed over the past five years. Nearly €17 million in prizes went uncollected last year alone and remains in the accounts of the National Lottery.

Gardaí Appeal For Help to Trace Two Missing Women
Gardaí have issued an appeal for help in tracing the whereabouts of two missing women from Kilkenny and Dublin. Garda said 42-year-old Aoife Petrani failed to return to her home at St. Patricks Gate, Outrath Rd, Kilkenny from her work in Dublin on 24 January. She was last seen at The Aishling Hotel, Parkgate St, Dublin 8 on the 28 January.

Two Missing People Found 'Safe And Well'
Two missing people, a 15-year-old boy and a 40-year-old man, have both been found "safe and well". Cian Cleary, 15, who had been missing from Bray since Wednesday, 13 July, has been found. No further information has been released, however gardaí thanked the public for their help.
