Search After Prisoner Escapes From Transport Van
A search is underway for man who escaped from a prison escort van on Wednesday afternoon.
23-year-old Lee McDonnell, who is serving a 10-year sentence, was being transported to Portlaoise prison after attending a hospital appointment in Dublin.
It is understood that the prison van stopped at about 14:00 in Inchicore to get food. However, when prison officers opened the van doors, McDonnell, who had managed to escape his handcuffs, lunged at the officers and managed to escape.
According to reports, McDonnell was due to appear before the Court of Appeal on Friday morning.
The prison service and garda are searching for McDonnell, who is originally from Lough Conn Road in Ballyfermot.

Translink Workers Reject Pay Offer
Translink NI workers have rejected a pay offer from the public transport company. Unite, GMB and SIPTU confirmed that their members has "decisively voted to reject as inadequate" a pay offer made by Translink management. Both Iarnród Éireann and the Rail Accident Investigation Unit are investigating a collision between a train and a four-wheel-drive vehicle. The crash happened on a level crossing near Birdhill, Co Tipperary, with both the woman driving the car and eight rail passengers suffering just minor cuts and bruises.
