CER Confirms People With Boil Water Notices Will Not Be Charged
The Commission For Energy Regulation (CER) has confirmed people with boil water notices in Roscommon will not be charged for water supply until the problem has been resolved.
Labour Senator John Kelly has welcomed the announcement and said he is glad clarity has been provided.
He said: "I repeatedly raised this issue with the Commission for Energy Regulation, Environment Minister Alan Kelly and Tánaiste Joan Burton over the past number of months, and I am glad they have each listened to my concerns. I have been on record for a long time stating that it was a huge smack in the face for people who couldn't drink their own water to be charged for it."
However, metered customers will be charged €2.44 per 1,000 litres, but charges will be capped at the unmetered rate for the first nine months of use.
Those without meters will pay an annual rate of €176 for a household with one adult or €278 for a home with two adults.

Deputy Fleming has said that the 'polluter pays' principal in the directive does not bind Ireland to the imposition of domestic water charges.
