Fireworks Not To Blame For M5 Crash

A 2011 crash on the M5, which killed seven people, was not caused by fireworks smoke, a coroner has ruled.

The crash, near Taunton, happened next to a fireworks display at a rugby club, but coroner Michael Rose has said that he dismisses, "smoke being the cause of the crash."

It is understood that there was also thick fog in the area at the time of the crash, with the coroner adding: "I cannot exclude the possibility that smoke may have added to the intensity of the reduced visibility."

Mr Rose said he would meet with transport departments such as the Highways Agency and pyrotechnics organisations about taking measures to avoid a similar incident in the future.
