Cork Waste Firm Staff Stage Sit-In Protest

Employees of a waste firm in Cork are staging a sit-in protest after they were told that the company was to close.

Workers at Healy's Blue Bins told its 25 staff on Wednesday that it was to close, blaming "financial reasons".

It is understood that a liquidator has been appointed.

The 25 staff, some of whom are understood to have worked at the company for over 30 years, were given P45's, a reference – described as "brief" – and one weeks' pay.

The staff hope to meet with liquidators later today.
