Longford Road Death Probed

Gardaí at Longford town are investigating a single vehicle fatal road traffic collision which occurred at Bornacoola, Carrick On Shannon, Co Leitrim at approximately 8.21am this morning.

A 36-year-old man - who was the only occupant of the 4 X 4 vehicle - was fatally injured as a result of this collision.

His body was removed to the Midland Regional Hospital in Mullingar where a post mortem will take place later today.

The scene was technically examined by Gardaí Forensic Collision Investigators and the road has now re-opened.

The sad news comes as the deadly road toll from accidents in Northern Ireland has now reached a total of 104 people.

A 17-year-old boy was killed in a road accident in Co Londonderry as he went to pick up friends for a school formal event

Eamonn McIntyre died in a collision between his car and a lorry on Boleran Road, near Garvagh, at 6pm on Wednesday.

A girl who was with him was taken to hospital, but her injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

Four Men Dead In Separate Collisions
A total of four men have died in a spate of separate car collisions over the weekend. In the most recent incident, a motorcyclist collided with a pick-up truck towing a trailer, resulting in the death of the motorcyclist, a man in his late 20s. The collision which occurred at Cloghnadromin, Ballysimon, CoLimerick at approx 1.30pm on Sunday.

Four Killed On Irish Roads This Weekend
A number of separate road crashes this weekend have claimed four lives, including a father and son. John Gallagher, 55, and his 24-year-old son Sean died when their car collided with another vehicle at Burt on Saturday morning. The collision occurred at the junction of Slab Road, Burt, on the Main Letterkenny to Derry Road at approximately 10.

Man Leaves Scene Of Fatal Accident
A man has been arrested after fleeing from the scene of a fatal accident on County Cork in the early hours of this morning. Two men in their 20s were killed in a head on collision of two vehicles at approximately 2.45am this morning on the N25 at Caherulton, Castlemartyr, County Cork.

Witness Appeal Following Fatal Road Traffic Collision In Co Longford
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to a fatal road traffic collision in Co Longford on Sunday, 17 July. An 18-year-old male was fatally injured when the car he was travelling in, as a front seat passenger, collided with a tractor at approximately 11.50pm in Cloonart, Bornacoola. The man was pronounced dead at Mullingar Hospital.

Two Dead In Separate Collisions
Two people have died on Ireland's roads after traffic collisions in Dublin and Kilkenny in the last two days. In the latest incident, a male aged 19 was fatally injured when the motorcycle he was driving collided with a stationary vehicle. His body was taken to Tallaght Hospital.
