Dublin 'Bombs' Made Safe

Irish Army bomb disposal experts carried out a controlled explosion on two suspect devices yesterday in Dublin.

Just the latest in a series of call-outs for the Army on suspected bombs - the incidents are said to be mostly home-made pipe bombs - now being used more frequently by criminal gangs.

On Saturday night, two suspect devices were found in Fairview Park in north Dublin and gardaí called the Army to the scene.

Both of the devices were examined and a controlled explosion was carried out early yesterday morning. The area was declared safe three hours after they arrived.

While neither of the improvised explosive devices (IEDs) were set to detonate, the components could have been put together to form a viable device later.

It is possible that the bomb parts may have been left in the park for collection by someone else later, gardaí said.
