Donegal Accident Claims Another Road Victim

Another fatal accident has blighted the roads in Ireland with a man dying in an early morning crash in Co Donegal.

This is the latest such fatality and happened in the border village of Muff at about 1am on Friday.

The victim was in his twenties and from the village of Burnfoot in County Donegal.

The main road through Muff is closed between the Texaco garage and Liberty Bridge. Diversions were in place on Friday and drivers were advised to avoid the area.

Meanwhile, a 15-year-old male pedestrian died on Thursday after being involved in a collision with a van.

He was brought to Tallaght General Hospital where he was subsequently pronounced dead.

Gardai were yesterday afternoon at the scene of this tragedy which occurred at approximately 1.20pm on the N81 Blessington Road, Tallaght.

The road was closed in both directions for most of the afternoon and early evening near The Jobstown Inn.

Gardai in Tallaght are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident or have information to contact Tallaght Garda Station on 01-666-6000.

News of the fatality ended a week that began grimly anyway, with the death of a man in an early Monday morning road accident in Co Tyrone - bringing the number of people killed on the island of Ireland to seven in just a few days - but that wasn't the end of the death toll.

After that crash happened - about two miles from the village of Castlecaulfield - with a single vehicle involved in the incident at about 4am on Monday, a woman died following a road crash on the M1 motorway in Co Meath.

She was the eighth victim of the roads across Ireland in just two days.
