Missing Polish Man's Body Found In River

A six-day hunt for a missing Polish dad has ended with a body being pulled from a river in Ennis.

Przemyslaw Jablonski, 31, who was working as a cook in Ennis, had left a house party at Springfield Orchard in the early hours of the morning.

The father of one is believed to have attempted to swim across River Fergus when the current washed him downstream.

Mr Jablonski was reported missing last Wednesday, and a massive search and rescue operation was launched.

Ennis fire service, Clare Civil Defence, gardai, the Doolin unit of the Irish Coastguard and the Shannon-based Coastguard helicopter all searched the river and bank until darkness fell and the operation was called off for the night.

A passer-by reportedly spotted the body at around 4pm on Monday near Abbey street car park.

Officers went to the scene as the body was taken downriver with the current. After travelling a further 500 metres, gardai and Clare Civil Defence personnel were able to safely reach and secure the body before taking it ashore.

After being pronounced dead at the scene, the man's body was first removed to Ennis General Hospital where formal identification was due to take place last night.

The man's former partner and child are currently living in Poland.

Mr Jablonski had no family in Ireland, but gardai have informed them of the developments through an interpreter.
