Xilinx To Create 100 New Hobs In Dublin And Cork

Xilinx has revealed plans to create 100 new jobs in Dublin and Cork.

The semiconductor manufacturing company will recruit 75 senior silicon and electronics engineering staff for its regional headquarters in Dublin and for its engineering centre in Cork. A further 25 roles will be created across a broad range of business disciplines.

The new jobs are being generated as part of the company's $40 million investment to expand its research, development, and engineering operations at its EMEA headquarters in Dublin and Cork.

The investment is supported by the Irish government through IDA Ireland.

Announcing the investment in Dublin today, 03 November, Tánaiste and Minister for Business, Enterprise and Innovation, Frances Fitzgerald TD, said: "This new investment by Xilinx is a great vote of confidence in Ireland and, in particular, in the attractive eco-system we have created for companies in the ICT sector. Xilinx's expansion and the 100 new, high quality, jobs announced today, are a very valuable contribution to our thriving research capability in these exciting technologies."

Kevin Cooney, Senior Vice President, Xilinx, added: "Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence (AI) will have a profound impact across a wide range of applications that impact society as a whole. Xilinx is uniquely positioned to accelerate the proliferation of these applications from edge to cloud.

"This investment by Xilinx in Ireland will fuel advanced product development and research that will enable ever more intelligent and efficient AI development and deployment."

Steeltech Sheds is to relocate its business from Headford Road in Galway to the former Coca-Cola factory in Tuam and will recruit new staff between now and 2017. The company currently employs 100 staff at bases in Cork, Dublin, Carlow and Athlone.
