FF Urge Intervention On Aer Lingus Work Stoppage

Following the announcement of a 24 hour work stoppage at Dublin, Cork and Shannon airports on Friday 30 May, Fianna Fáil has said they are "very worried" about the impact of the industrial action.

Commenting on the action being taken by the IMPACT trade union, the party's spokesperson on Transport and Tourism Timmy Dooley said: "This is one of the busiest weekends of the year at the country’s main airports and now tens of thousands of passengers are facing the threat of industrial action.

"It’s no secret that relations between unions and management are strained, and have been for some time, and while I understand that morale among staff is low, this type of action should only be used as a last resort. This 24 hour work stoppage will have a major impact on the travelling public, and the timing of it will disrupt thousands of people heading away for the long weekend.

"This action has the potential to have a seriously detrimental impact on the tourism industry here, and could tarnish Ireland’s reputation abroad. I would urge Minister Varadkar to intervene to see if any resolution can be found. This strike needs to be averted."
