Dublin Water Restrictions Remain

Residents in the Dublin area are being advised by the City Council that, while water production at Ballymore Eustace has improved, it is still low and restrictions will remain in place until at least Thursday 7 November.

The current water restrictions will take place each evening, from 20:00 to 07:00 the following morning.

Dublin City Council’s Engineering and Central Laboratory staff have been working 24 hours a day, according to the Council.

Michael Phillips, Dublin City Engineer, said: "Since we identified the problem, we deployed all available resources, and continue to do so, 24 hours a day, to remedy the problem of loss in production at the Plant. Our Engineers and Central Laboratory Technicians have made significant progress in turning around the difficult situation at the Treatment Works, so that the production of water has begun to improve. The key to the successful resumption of full treatment capacity is our systematic and structured approach in which treated water quantities are increased in a very controlled manner. However, levels are still 20% below that required to meet daily demand for the Dublin region. We also need to replenish levels at our treated water reservoirs which still remain at a critically low level.

"We wish to thank consumers right across the Region for their patience and for assisting us in our efforts to restoring water supply to normal, by taking conservation measures themselves when we return supply to them each day. We are reviewing the water supply situation on a daily basis and a decision will be taken on the current restrictions as the situation evolves. We wish to once again urge consumers all over the Dublin region to continue to conserve water, in an effort to assist us in restoring our water supply to normal. We welcome the visit of Minister for Environment, Community and Local Government to the Treatment Works this afternoon to see firsthand the progress that has been made."
