Probe Continue Into Liffey Drowning

Gardai are seeking the public's assistance in relation to a drowning incident that occurred in the River Liffey on the morning of the 31st of July.

The deceased man Aiden Mullen, 35, from Tattyreagh Road, in County Tyrone had attended Croke Park on the 30th July and was socialising in a Public House on Burgh Quay with a number of friends and family. In the early hours of the next morning, around 3.40am, they left the premises and were waiting on Burgh Quay to get taxis home. The deceased left the group and walked over to the river Liffey wall and he was last seen fall into the river by his brother. Having entered the water his brother also jumped in to assist him, both got in to trouble in the water.

Three passers by also entered the water to assist them. Five fire units attended at scene and removed four persons from the water.

A short time later the body of the deceased was located in the vicinity by Dublin Fire Brigade members.

A number of witnesses have come forward, but Gardai would like witnesses who have not yet come forward or any one who has information in relation to the incident to contact them in Pearse St or via the Garda Confidential Line.
