Second Arrest Made Over Ennis Shooting

A second man has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of a 35-year-old father of two in Limerick early yesterday morning.

Gardai investigating the shooting, which occurred on the Ennis Road outside Limerick said this morning they had made a second arrest, this time of a male in his late 20’s.

The man was arrested in the Limerick area last night and is currently detained under the provisions of Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act 2007 at Henry Street Garda Station.

Detectives made their first arrest at about 10am yesterday morning. The 29-year-old man was held on the northside of Limerick and is still being questioned by Gardaí.

Daniel Treacy, from Rhebogue in Limerick, died after being shot by a gunman as he was making a bread delivery at the Topaz filling station and shop on the Ennis road outside Limerick city centre shortly before 6.30am yesterday.

According to CCTV footage, a gunman wearing a hoodie approached Mr Treacy and shot him a number of times with a handgun just inside the main door of the shop then fled the scene in a red Toyota Corolla.

Gardaí from Mayorstone Garda station were quickly on the scene and a doctor attended to Mr Treacy, but he was pronounced dead and his body remained at the scene until yesterday afternoon when it was removed to Limerick Regional Hospital for a postmortem.

Gardai investigating the incident said this morning they are seeking the publics assistance with the case.

Gardai wish to trace the whereabouts of the red Toyota Corolla 96 LK 1814 used by the gunman.

Gardaí in Limerick have reported that a 26-year-old man has been injured in a shooting in the city. According to reports the shooting took place at around 21:30 on Thursday night at Byrne Avenue in Prospect. The man is being treated at University Hospital Limerick for gunshot wounds to the stomach.

Arrests Follow Limerick Death
Gardaí are questioning five people following the fatal shooting of a man in Co Limerick on Tuesday night, The 25-year-old was shot dead on the main Tipperary Road outside Limerick city around 9.30pm. It is understood that the man was shot several times. He was taken to Mid-Western Hospital, but was later pronounced dead.

Information Sought On Stabbing Incident In Limerick City
Gardaí have issued an appeal for information following a stabbing incident in Limerick City. A man, aged in his 20s, in being treated in hospital for stab wounds he received in an incident at an apartment at Rover Point Apartments in Limerick at about 4pm on Monday, 22 July.
