Man Held Over Fatal Crash Released

A man held in connection with a fatal road accident in Co Cork yesterday has been released by Gardaí.

The man was arrested after a fatal accident in County Cork in the early hours of yesterday morning.

Two men in their 20s were killed in the head on collision of two vehicles at approximately 2.45am in the early hours of Monday on the N25 at Caherulton, Castlemartyr, County Cork.

Both cars were travelling in opposite directions and collided, resulting in the death of two male passengers in one of the cars. The bodies of both men have been removed to Cork University Hospital.

Both men have since been named as Brendan Donnelly, aged 24, from Old Tramore Road, Waterford, and Lee Stalkeld, 26, also from Old Tramore Rd.

The car also had a female driver and one other female passenger. They were also taken to Cork University Hospital where they are being treated for their injuries. Their conditions are described as stable.

The other car had a male driver, also in his 20s, as it's sole occupant. His car was left at the scene but he fled the area. However, following an investigation of the collision he was arrested later at Ballinacurra, Midleton by Gardaí.

He has since been released but it is understood that a file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Missing Cork Man Found 'Safe And Well'
A missing 52-year-old man from Cork has been found 'safe and well', garda have reported. John Ryan was last seen in the Shanakiel area of Cork City on Wednesday, 24 May. However, Mr Ryan has now been located and no further action is required.
