Injuries 'Serious' In Tipperary Assault

A 22-year-old man is in a critical condition in hospital following a "serious assault" in County Tipperary.

Gardai in Thurles are investigating the serious assault that occured on Mitchell Street, Thurles outside a licenced premises at approximately 1.30am on Sunday morning.

According to Gardaí, the 22-year-old man was seriously assaulted and was removed to South Tipperary General Hospital where he is in a critical condition.

The scene is currently preserved for a technical examination.

Gardai are appealing to any members of the public who may have witnessed this incident or who may have information is asked to contact Thurles Garda Station on 0504-25100, the Garda Confidential Line 1-800-666-111 or any Garda Station.

Meanwhile, a youth has appeared in court after attempting to strike a Garda.

The 19-year-old attempted the assault while sitting in a patrol car and claimed he'd been drinking as his friend had died earlier that day.

Teenager Stephen Nolan subjected the garda to a "tirade of abuse", telling him that he was a boxer and would "box the head off him". The accused apologised to the garda and admitted that his behaviour was terrible.

Nolan, of Kilmartin Green in Tallaght, admitted before Tallaght District Court to public drunkenness and threatening and abusive behaviour.

The incident took place on Kilcarrig Close, Tallaght on September 26 last.

The court heard the accused had six previous convictions, mostly for public order matters.

Judge John Lindsay ordered Nolan to complete 240 hours community service in lieu of two months in prison. The judge adjourned the matter to a date in January for reports.

Missing Tallaght Man Found 'Safe And Well'
A man who had been missing from the Tallaght area has been found 'safe and well', Garda have reported. 30-year-old John Rodgers was reported missing on 11 July. However, Garda said John has now been found and thanked the public for their assistance.

Teen Arrested Following Firearm Seizure
A 19-year-old man has been arrested by gardaí following the seizure of a firearm in Tallaght, Dublin. He was arrested on the Jobstown Road at approximately 12.40am on Tuesday morning. Gardaí were alerted after a man was seen holding a weapon. The male was chased on foot and gardaí disarmed and arrested him.
