Man's Body Recovered From River Lee

Emergency workers have recovered a body of a young man from the River Lee in Cork.

It is believed the 22-year-old man got into difficulty while attempting to swim to a dinghy in the middle of the river.

The Emergency Services took the body from the water shortly after 9am at Pope's Quay at low tide in a recovery operation.

It is understood that he and a friend had attempted the swim at around 4am this morning.

When one man got into difficulty, the other managed to swim to the quayside to raise the alarm.

The body has been taken to Cork University Hospital, where a post mortem examination will be carried out later today.

The recovery comes within days of another man's body being pulled from a river in Coleraine in the North.

On Sunday, the remains, thought to be that of a man who had been in his 40s, were recovered from the River Bann just after 11.20am. The find came following a witness report that a person had entered the water at Bannside Wharf last Sunday.
