| | The Harp Ice Cold Big Gig!!! | | | | After the raucous rock rollercoaster that was the last Harp Ice Cold Big Gig, we have decided to chill things out a bit this month. Only kidding… February's event is one of the heaviest and deadliest line-ups we've had yet as we prepare to welcome one of Dublin's best bands, Bats. Bats (pic above) are a post-punk/hardcore/metal/math hybrid like no other. Signed to the Dublin based Richter Collective label and with a reputation for frenzied performances and frenetic music, Bats' appearance is a real coup for us here at The Big List, and we haven't been this excited since Big Brother's cancellation. Also on the bill is one of the Big List's favourite bands on the planet, Slomatics. The sludge metal stalwarts are inventive and intense; painting detailed and decadent landscapes of doom and desolation with their grinding gut wrenched guitars. Their epic soundscapes portend the apocalyptic as you're whisked away on aural adventures. In short, Slomatics are essential listening. Common Bred Trigger have been stealthily stalking under the radar of the industry since they began just over a year ago. Their gestation period is coming to an end however as they grow into something formidable. With smash and grab choruses and unquenchable passion for what they are doing, Common Bred Trigger are subsumed into their own work on stage and drag the audience with them. Their heavy rocking influences are worn on their sleeve as this Belfast based three piece continue to improve exponentially, building up a momentum that should roll them into their rightful place at the forefront of Northern Ireland's heavy rock scene. Bats, Slomatics and Common Bred Trigger appear at the Harp Ice Cold Big Gig on Friday 26 February in the Spring and Airbrake. Doors 9pm, admission just £4! Special drink promotions through the night.
